Special Agent Ingle was working with a private detective to move a package of evidence that possibly related to a federal crime. The private detective had a pistol in his pocket but the pocket apparently had a hole in it and the pistol fell to the ground, firing and fatally striking Ingle. Ingle was the first Special Agent of the FBI to die in the line of duty but in a non-combat situation.

Double murderer Murray Hooper is executed by lethal injection at the age of 77 in Arizona State Prison Complex, 1305 E Butte Avenue, Florence, Arizona, United States. Hooper's last words were "It's all been said, let it be done. Don't be sad for me. Don't cry. I'll see you later, let's go."
