Eight people are killed and 16 injured in a racially motivated shooting spree by 23-year-old spree killer Barend Strydom aka Wit Wolf in Strijdom Square, Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. Strydom was sentenced to death but the South African government declared a moratorium on capital punishment in 1990. He was released in 1992. The square has since been renamed Lilian Ngoyi Square.
