United Airlines Flight 175 departed Logan Airport at 8:14 a.m. en route to Los Angeles with a crew of nine and 51 passengers, not including five hijackers. The hijackers flew the plane into the southern facade of the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. The four other hijackers were 24-year-old Fayez Banihammad, 22-year-old Mohand al-Shehri, 20-year-old Hamza al-Ghamdi and 22-year-old Ahmed al-Ghamdi.

 School shooter Adam Peter Lanza commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 20 in Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut, United States. Before Lanza shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children between six and seven years old and six adult staff members with a Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle and Glock 20SF handgun. Before driving to the school Lanza shot and killed his 52-year-old mother Nancy at their Newtown home. |
