Among the audience of Landru's trial were actors Mistinguette and Maurice Chevalier, writer Colette and a huge number of women from the bourgeoisie. Special trains known as the 'Landru Spécial' were run from Paris Invalides station to arrive in Versailles in time for the hearings. The painting 'King Philip IV of Spain' by Peter Paul Rubens is destroyed by arson in Kunsthaus Zürich, Heimplatz 1, Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland. The fire reduced the work to ashes, leaving only its Baroque frame. An unidentified man was arrested and said his reason for destroying this priceless work was to protest environmental pollution.
