Smith's final meal request was for steak and eggs with hash browns. The execution took about 22 minutes. Smith appeared to remain conscious for several of those minutes, at times appearing to shake and writhe on the gurney and pull against his restraints. This was followed by several minutes of heavy breathing, until his breathing was no longer perceptible.

Olga Stalmachenok is stabbed to death by serial killer Andrei Chikatilo aka The Rostov Ripper at the age of 10 in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov Oblast, Russia.

Stalmachenok was lured off a bus while riding home from her piano lessons.
