Tabram was stabbed 39 times in the body and neck including nine times in the throat, five in the left lung, two in the right lung, one in the heart, five in the liver, two in the spleen, and six in the stomach, also wounding her lower abdomen and genitals. Tabram's murder differs from the canonical five Jack the Ripper murders in that she was stabbed rather than slashed at the throat and abdomen, and many experts today do not connect it with the later murders because of the difference in the wound pattern.

57-year-old fraudster John Darwin aka The Canoe Man walks into the police station claiming to have no memory of the past five years in West End Central Police Station, 27 Savile Row, West End, London, Greater London, United Kingdom. Darwin had been missing after a trip on the North Sea on 21 March 2002 and declared dead. On 23 July 2008 John and his wife Anne Darwin were both convicted of fraud. John was sentenced to six years and three months in prison.
