40-year-old Writer of mystery and the macabre Edgar Allan Poe becomes drunk and hallucinatory, and makes a suicide attempt. He is detained for public drunkenness and incarcerated for one night in Moyamensing Prison, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

No records exist which support this story other than Poe's own account of it.

6-year-old Peter Stubbe is killed and mutilated by serial killer Ludwig Tessnow aka The Mad Carpenter in Göhren, Rügen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Tessnow also killed Peter's 8-year-old brother Hermann on the same day. Their bodies were found the next day, cut to pieces and with organs missing.

After his death Satie's friends discovered an apartment replete with squalor and chaos. Among many other unsorted papers and miscellaneous items, it contained a large number of umbrellas and two grand pianos placed one on top of the other, the upper instrument used as storage for letters and parcels.

Reeser's remains, which were largely ashes, were found among the remains of a chair in which she had been sitting. Only part of her left foot which was wearing a slipper and her backbone remained. Plastic household objects at a distance from the seat of the fire were softened and had lost their shapes.

Lofgren said she knew shortly after their marriage that her husband had sexual and behavioral problems. Gacy and Lofgren divorced in February 1976.

Catholic exorcism victim Anneliese Anna Elisabeth Michel dies of malnutrition and dehydration at the age of 24 in Wilhelmstraße 84, Klingenberg am Main, Bayern, Germany.

The autopsy report stated that Michel died of malnutrition and dehydration due to being in a semi-starvation state for almost a year while the rites of exorcism were performed. She weighed 30 kilograms, suffering broken knees due to continuous genuflections. She was unable to move without assistance, and was reported to have contracted pneumonia.

The body of 40-year-old Victim of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley aka The Moors Murderers Pauline Reade is found in a shallow grave 90cm below the surface in Hollin Brown Knoll, Saddleworth Moor, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom.

In March 1987 Myra Hindley made a full confession to the murders and directed police search teams to the locations of their victims' graves.

Ferri killed eight people and wounded six more in a shooting attack with a pair of TEC-9 handguns and a Norinco NP44 before he was closed in by the police. He claimed he had been poisoned by monosodium glutamate and that he had been 'raped' by Pettit & Martin and other firms.

Eleven members of a family are found dead at their home in Burari, Delhi, India.

The victims included a 75-year-old woman Narayan, 60-year-old Partibha, her two sons and their wives 30-year-old Priyanka, 46-year-old Bhupi, 42-year-old Savita, 24-year-old Nitu, 22-year-old Meenu, 42-year-old Lalit, and her grandchildren 12-year-old Dhiru, 12-year-old Shivam and 38-year-old Tina. Ten of the bodies were hanged blindfolded and their hands tied behind their back from an iron rail attached to the ceiling and an 11th body was lying on the ground. The family's pet dog was found alive.
