Four months later Hindley's ashes were scattered by her former lover and Carmelite nun Patricia 'Pat' Cairns, a woman she had met in prison, in Stalybridge Country Park. Cairns stood trial at the Old Bailey in 1974 on a charge of conspiring to spring Hindley from Holloway Prison.
