On 17 June 2004 Woods had surrendered to police inside a crack house when 24-year-old Kerry Spencer came downstairs and opened fire, killing three officers. Spencer and Woods were both charged with the murders despite Woods never firing a weapon. Spencer was also sentenced to death and remains on death row at Holman Correctional Facility awaiting execution.

Murderer and prison rioter Ignacio Cuevas is executed by lethal injection at the age of 60 in Huntsville Prison, 815 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas, United States. Cuevas and two other inmates of Huntsville's Walls Unit sparked the nation's longest prison siege by taking 16 hostages on 24 July 24 1974. Accomplices Fred Gomez Carrasco and Rudolfo Dominguez along with hostages Julia Standley and Elizabeth Beseda were killed during a shootout 10 days later.
