It has been suggested that Lowry's death was a suicide. Inconsistencies in the accounts given by his wife Margerie at various times about what happened at the night of his death have also given rise to suspicions of murder. Lowry reputedly wrote his own epitaph: "Here lies Malcolm Lowry, late of the Bowery, whose prose was flowery, and often glowery. He lived nightly, and drank daily, and died playing the ukulele," but the epitaph does not appear on his gravestone.

Murderer Billy Wayne White is executed by lethal injection at the age of 35 in Huntsville Prison, 815 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas, United States. White had been a habitual heroin user throughout his life, causing his veins to deteriorate. Only after 47 minutes of trying officials found a suitable vein in his hand.
